Fortiter, Feliciter, Fideliter

What a great linky idea from SaveEveryStep. The school song. My school song. I sing it at least once a week. The high school I attended in Durban, South Africa, was a family tradition. All the girls in the family went there. I couldn't wait for my turn. A shared experience; it bonded us together, mother and daughter, sister, aunty and cousins.

The motto means 'Bravely Faithfully Happily' and I will never forget the gym mistress telling us that buying ice creams over the school gate was not acceptable behaviour for the mothers of tomorrow.

I know the words by heart, copied here from a Wikipedia entry. If there are any DGHS girls reading, do get in touch.

Sing on!

We've Joan of Arc in history and Coeur de Lion too And stout courageous Wellington, remember Waterloo Of Nelson and Napoleon full many a noble song That's sung to make out pulses throb out hearts beat loud and strong
But who will make the history and weave the fabric fine Record thy fame in golden deeds Let honour bright be thine And who will cast away the self and strive continually To make me worthy oh my school of thy great destiny.
Why we the school girls of today and those who follow on And those who've gone before us will forge the chain of song Of beauty honour, faith and hope Of joy and happiness
That stands for all that's noble in out GRAND OLD GHS
