Saving Farncombe Day Centre

A little over a year ago, I was asked to join the Executive Committee of a small local charity which provides a hot meal and companionship to older people in our community. I was delighted at the opportunity to contribute more than just financially, and I agreed to give my time.

From the first meeting, I knew that the Committee and I would be at odds with one another. They were afraid of change, under-skilled for the job and had yet to acknowledge the large shortfall in funding.

I like a challenge and jumped right in. This was my first mistake. My second mistake was to challenge the Chairwoman. My third mistake was to talk openly about my concerns for the day centre. Three strikes, and I was out.

That was in December. Since then I have thought about how best to highlight my concerns, without damaging the good work that the staff and volunteers do. I'm not sure what my next step will be, but this is a start.

My previous posts on Farncombe Day Centre:
What's the buzz?
High praise indeed
A jewel in the crown of the community

I have written an alternative proposal for the continued success and growth of the day centre, which I would be happy to share with anyone who is similarly concerned. Email me.

Thank you.
