O! Christmas Tree
For The Gallery ~ Christmas Tree.
This year, our Christmas tree stands on a table, well out of the reach of the devil Boxer puppy. She loves all things pretty and dangly, and quick as a wink, the decorations will be off the tree, back to her den. My choice of decorations? A selection of African themed beaded fancies, and painted balls and little animals.
This is my favourite Christmas card. Received from our 6 year old godson who lives in Melbourne. It is in Japanese, but I thought his Christmas tree fits in with the theme too.

Vamos!
Linking up with #One Week - Autumn '13 hosted by Older Mum (In A Muddle).
We made a deal a few years ago. Mr B runs marathons. I get to choose where. This time, it was Valencia. A little later in the season than usual, we wondered what autumn in Valencia would be like. As it turned out, it was blue skies, warm sunshine, fabulous architecture, stunning food, friendly people, superb shopping - oh, and a personal best in the marathon for Mr B.

Imagination

Photography is about imagination. I met an interesting chap at an art exhibition. We were standing in front a group of assemblage pieces, wondering about what they meant.
'Does it matter?' I asked.
He supposed not and then explained 'It probably only mattered to the artist in the moment she was creating it'.
And we both agreed that that is precisely what photography is all about. Capturing a moment in time, that mattered to the photographer.
These are my moments, my imagination.

Family

I wouldn't say that there is anything unusual about our family. My parents worked hard, my brother and I did well at school, and I went on the obtain a PhD in cardiovascular genetics. My childhood was filled with family get-togethers, blue skies in South Africa and animals.

February Photo Collage Festival
The brief is to make a photo collage and tell the story of the photographs each day in February. I'm slightly bending the rules (due to time constraints), as I will post the full 28 photograph collage here today, and then do four more posts during February, approximately one week, covering a mini-collage of 7 photos, each with its own theme and story.

Faces of Brin the Boxer
Brin and I have a special bond. I wish I could bottle his spirit, his indomitable character, his quite unstoppable sense of fun. That's why I love to photograph him.

Photos, memories, gifts and plans
On this first day of 2013, a bright, sunny day, I'm sharing a photo of our gift to ourselves. It's a fabric print of over 100 of my own, favourite photographs from 2012. The design and print was managed by Emma Trussler of Tempt Designs. We love the way Emma has captured the colour and life which surrounded us in 2012, in a multi-layered photo collage on cotton satin (1.5m x 0.75m).

I look forward to even more photography in 2013; already planning a woodland-a-week photography project.
You're Beautiful - Water
I discovered a long time ago that I am a water baby. I could swim almost before I could walk, or so the story goes.
And I swim everyday now; the water caresses me, warms me, holds me. I can even feel my aura in water, and it appears 10 feet tall, a sign that I am relaxed and content.
When we go on holiday, we gravitate to water, too. Mr B grew up inland, I grew up at the coast. But we share a love for water.
When Jenny let me know about this special one-off You're Beautiful, it just had to be 'Water'. So these are some lovely photos of water from my travels, near and far, this year.

The Gallery - Autumn
Each week, I follow the prompt by Sticky Fingers and post a photograph which best describes my interpretation of the theme for The Gallery.
A week or two ago, I wrote 'Poemwalk' about an autumn walk through the woods. I took these photos around the same time.
Cow parsnip close-up
These elegant plants in the hedgerow caught my eye. I loved the way they looked a bit alien. The latin name is heracleum sphondylium, but it is also known as the common hogweed.
These photographs form part of a study on natural form and structure, which I am exploring in watercolour and acrylic. To read more about this, click here.

You're Beautiful - After The Rain
What a coincidence. The sun shone this morning, so I grabbed my camera and had a wander around my garden, composing a blog post called 'After The Rain'. The Boxers watched with interest as I explored the little mushrooms that have popped up in the lawn, tutted at the hedge that has sprouted up and now needs trimming - again, marvelled at the rhododendron flowers which survived the monsoon.
When I came inside I had a quick look to see what everyone else is up to this morning, and imagine my delight when I found that Cheetahs in my Shoes had exactly the same idea.
So I'm joining up with You're Beautiful, so glad to have a break in the rain.

Monday mood board #7
It's still feeling hot, hot, hot. Warm sunshine encourages healing, and growth. The wet April and early May left the ground moist and ready for the new growth. If Spring represents hope, then a glimpse of Summer must represent life. So my mood board today is all about life, and living.

This is absolutely the last mention of our holiday in South Africa, I promise. I met some inspirational people, saw some stunning scenery, and ate mouthwatering food. And now it's time to move on to new adventures, so just one last look at some of the photos from beautiful South Africa.
